now you may have to convince me otherwise but is there any particular reason, other than what's always been done, as to why we couldn't change it during non June time?

I think we'd want to keep the June = 0 merc and May = 11 merc the same

So the discussion of a new Cycle has been entirely academic, as it wont be implemented for another 10 mercannum?

Devils Advocate: What is to stop us having a new Cycle now or at the end of the month at least, June or not?

Note: In the past, cycles have ended before the 11 merc. Cycles are not really "cyclical", as they are more like geopolitical eras. The Cycle of the Snake did indeed end on an 11, it can be assumed, because the beginning of our calendar was the birth of the empire in the year 00.

However, the Cycle of the Owl ended during the purges in Imperial Project (which was not on 11), and the Cycle of the Dragon, I'm assuming, could do the same. Some momentous occasion recognizing a seismic shift in the political order usually is what justifies it.

Mind you, I am one of the few who does not think we are ready for a new cycle. We have modernized and expanded many new features, for sure. But it's not akin to the great Fleeing which wiped out entire civilizations, or the abandonment of the old world in search of a new world. But that's just my two cents of course. It's the community's will. :)

I'd argue the recent developments in maritime travel warrant a change in Cycle. Even though the changes are fairly young, already we are seeing a huge change in the way people collaborate and work together. The recent uptick in co-builds is a testament to this.

The empire has never seemed bigger, and yet we are all a few steps closer as a result

That does indeed seem to be the overwhelming consensus of the Empire and as such, I agree with all of you about an inescapable truth: the spirit of the empire is stronger than ever today due to recent navigation achievements.

The difference is indeed massive. For a single evening co-build I had a total of 9 people show up. That's a huge difference in the actual gameplay of the server.

Proof was the voting ceremony too. Actually, I'm now thoroughly convinced.
