I would like to lore-ify the events that took place that freed the serfs in the Mercurian Empire.

Originally I called the post the "Serf's Rebellion" and I'd like to lore-ify it using that title.

Is there any opposition to me basically saying that certain groups within the empire were given more rights/freedoms in terms of what their title had, or their title was improved, after a minor rebellion of serfs?

The major opposition that I would have is that no such rebellion actually took place in game. I would instead propose that the role of serf had evolved over time and the title was changed accordingly after some debate and activism.

Plenty of things have "not happened in game," so I don't see that as a super strong argument, but it is a valid one nonetheless.

I would prefer for it to be something where at least some kind of appeal was made, rebellion or not, to the Council/Parliament for the title to be changed.

I think it would make sense for there to have been appeal by a number of serfs to have their title formally changed sans a rebellion. We could lore-ify said appeal to the Council and mesh it with the existing forum discussion of the terminology.

I agree with Chairman here, but you also have a good point, Mark. I think 'rebellion' is too related to conflict, which if there was an actual conflict we'd normally try to have an event in game for it.

My resolution for this is perhaps pleas for better protections and rights from serfs started becoming more prominent after The Unraveling due to new leadership within the empire's states. Eventually several serfs were heard by the Council, who gave the vote to Parliament which was passed.

Each person could chip in and say whether or not there were any riots or violence to do with these upheavals, and or whether or not they were present in the activism and changes taking place, a lot of places are isolated and or might have relatively content populaces.

For example, the people I brought from Perth with me to Dawnstar on the Expedition by my forebearer, Samaia, were never considered nor called Serfs, they were valued members, so, as an example of a realm in which there was no grumbling or malcontent. Other areas could decide to lorify some of the elements that lead to this change though?

That's an awesome suggestion! Everyone explains it in their own way, because people called their serfs/vassals different things. For Ostlaed, serfs have never been a thing. There are peasants (NPCs), Thanes, and so far only one Eorl.

However, we should have a name for this event as it happened empire wide.

I say that the line in the Annals of History should say this:

Phoenix 00|11, A.I. 494: Various tribal leaders petition their lieges and ultimately the Council of the Crowned for defined rights and titles. The term Serf is abandoned at this time, and a new Vassal class with various local terms replaces it.

To be fair, serfs did have "defined rights" already before the name change took place. I'm not sure if this is the best explanation or not.
