What kind of peoples/races/species were in the New World before the arrival of the Mercurian Empire?

Native populations of Aethen(Snow Elves), known to be at least in the areas that are now occupied by Dawnstar and Perth. Suspected that there are many more across the Empire.

Thanks for your reply good sir, I look forward to more information.

It is important for my future lore posts to know - would you happen to know if there are at least humans ethnically similar to the widespread Mercurians of the old world present in the new world before our arrival?

Like in Old Hermertia, scattered populations of elves and dwarves existed across the lands of today's New World; like the Old World, these were often mysterious peoples of whom much is still unknown today. Some of these populations have risen to greater Imperial prominence - see the Aethens under good Sam - while others such as the dwarves appear only occasionally.

The big native race that we still maintain a great deal of contact with today is, of course the myriad native tribes of Mercurian testificates. Officially termed Native Mercurian, these peoples include those who reside in the small (NPC) hamlets and villages across the Empire - though a great many now live in the larger Imperial cities as well. Native culture varies enormously by region and - just as in our world - it is difficult and disingenuous to generalize about native culture as a whole. One interesting idea present across many cultures seem to be the importance of native shamen, however; these are apparently individuals of some spiritual and medicinal significance in teh community - many of whom, unfortunately, early settlers took to labelling 'witches' when confronted antagonistically. As a result, some of these shamen today may still be quite confrontational if approached without warning.

I will be happy to add to Nicholas' great post. In short, the testificate people are the left overs of the empire that predated the Cycle of the Owl. Lots of fascinating history there will be revived from our backup in due time. In essence, they are cousins of the founders of the Mercurial Empire. It's precursor empire spread across most of the known land, and penetrated in its late years into the new world and made it a mining colony. When they collapsed, they left scattered villages behind.
