Are we still in the Cycle of the Owl (for reference) or did we start a new Cycle? I remember there being some discussion about the Phoenix, but I cannot remember if that was in regard to a new era or a new cycle.

We technically started the cycle of the Pheonix the day that the new server went up.

can confirm: We talked about it and started the Cycle of the Phoenix at that time that Atryl says. Era is 12 mercannums.

EDITED TO INCLUDE CYCLE/ERA CONFUSION.

Cycles and eras aren't the same thing, I blame you for the confusion.

Is the Phoenix an era (5th era of the cycle of the Owl and 1st era with a name of its own) or is it a cycle, thus ending the cycle of the owl?

confusion galore. Atryl, Library, Now.

Owl has finished, Phoenix is now. we're in the 1st Era of the Phoenix. I think we're due for another Era to begin at some point soon as well when we're 12 Mercannums into this current one.

Cycle is the animal name, Era is the number of Thoannums (12 Mercannums/(1irl year) into a cycle.

EDITED DUE TO NOT KNOWING WHAT I WAS TALKING ABOUT

No, that means we're in the 1st Era of the Cycle of the Phoenix.

What event would justify the creation of a new Era?

The End events (next update) ?
The Rebuilding of the Library?
Other?

We started a new era every real life year, so an era lasted twelve mercannums. So we are in the first era of the Cycle of the Phoenix. At this point, I do not think we have a specific name for this era (unlike the eras during the Cycle of the Owl). We should discuss as a community what to name the first era of the Cycle of the Phoenix.

ah yes, eras = RL year, gotcha.

From what I read in the archives, eras don't typically have a name. It would simply be the first era of the cycle of the Phoenix

Ah gotcha. I thought we used to have names for them (e.g. Era of the Dragon), but I am probably misremembering things.
