Guidelines for Community Participation in Ascension to King/Queen
Drafted by the Mercurian Parliament

Introduction

The official requirements for ascension to the rank of King/Queen, article 3.1 of the Indoles Carta, are as follows:

The prospective applicant to the rank of King/Queen must satisfy the requirements of:

a) Having established 2 duchies, comprised of 9 counties, as determined in unison by the Council of the Crowned.

b) Having established safe, secure, and extensive infrastructure as is serviceable for the prospective Kingdom, and as creates a safe and secure connection with the Empire via the Nether, as determined in unison by the Council of the Crowned.

c) Having proven themselves to represent the virtues of Hermertia and an outstanding member of Hermertia in the form of commitment, established personal lore, participation in Imperial lore and events, communal activity and relations, etc, as detailed in "Guidelines for Ascension to King/Queen", as determined in unison by the Council of the Crowned.

d) Having obtained a unanimous (100%) vote of assent from the Council of the Crowned.

As established by the Imperial Parliament, the community, and the Council of the Crowned, ascension to the rank of King/Queen must inevitably take into account a member of Hermertia’s community involvement and participation – their contribution to Hermertia’s social structures, their work to build both social and Hermertian relationships, and their investment in our community. As this is difficult to quantify and to legislate specifically, this document, entitled Guidelines for Community Participation in Ascension to King/Queen, has been created and passed by the Mercurian Parliament. Its goal is to provide a transparent and clearly defined collection of activities that may be recognized as “Community Involvement”; the activities that the Council of the Crowned examine when judging whether a prospective applicant to the rank of King/Queen fulfills point c) in article 3.1.

These activities are not necessarily all required to be present in an applicant, nor are they explicitly weighted; the Council of the Crowned will inevitably maintain some leeway in this area in the ultimate goal of ensuring the applicant is suitable and deserving of ascension to within their ranks. The goal of this document is to list these applicable events and activities in a transparent and easily accessible manner, so that any Hermertian can see what the Council of the Crowned will base their judgements on when determining whether an applicant has

“proven themselves to represent the virtues of Hermertia and an outstanding member of Hermertia in the form of commitment, established personal lore, participation in Imperial lore and events, communal activity and relations, etc”

Applicable Activities Fulfilling Community Involvement and Participation

Lore

Hermertia is a “Lore/RPG” server for a reason – a key element of Hermertia and the Mercurian Empire has always been the establishment of a lore with which to explore our world.

Personal Lore: The establishment of an in-depth, accessible and personalized lore for the applicant’s current incarnation. This can include ideas such as a character backstory, heritage, culture, etc. Investment in a series of characters over time is often evidenced by a familial history and/or a consistent effort to maintain lore for your characters. The Council is looking for evidence of effort that the applicant is committed to one of the primary goals of Hermertia, that of creating viable and descriptive lore for their characters.

Realm-wide Lore: The establishment of a consistent and expansive lore that moves beyond an individual character into the background of the applicant’s realm itself; ideas include history, culture, information on a religion and/or common religious practices, the legal system and workings of the state, investment in describing the workings of the realm in areas such as trade, industry, and especially international relations with other realms across the Empire. In addition, this also includes physical work: creations such as maps, artwork, and realm advertising are integral to showing off the work an applicant has put into their realm and their lore.

Organization and/or Participation in Lore Events: Some of the Mercurian Empire’s most successful events – from the Imperial victory against the Ender Dragon to the Voyage to the Old World – have been spawned from lore. Participation in or organization of such events indicates a real effort on the part of the applicant to apply their lore to an in-game setting, and leads to great results all-around.

Organizations and Community Infrastructure

Organizations and collective endeavours such as Guilds, trading organizations, international companies, and many more have incredible potential in Hermertia and have been used to great effect to bring our community closer together.

Guilds: The creation and running of a successful Guild that succeeds in uniting Hermertians across the Empire behind a cause and doing good is a strong indication that an applicant is willing to put the time and effort in, is able to take on a role of responsibility, and can work together with others in the community to achieve a common goal.

International Companies, Trading Associations, etc: The creation and maintenance of an international venture shows that an applicant is truly able to reach out to the realms of the Empire – whether a close neighbour or across the world – and engage in diplomacy, trade, and the fostering of cooperation and learning.

Community Presence:

A hallmark of any successful applicant is a commitment to Hermertia: an ability to be present and active and a willingness to answer questions and guide others in the right direction.

Activity In-Game: To put it simply, a successful King/Queen should be active enough in-game to contribute to our world, to keep abreast of new developments, and to have the time to form strong relationships with Hermertians across the Empire.

Activity on the Forums: A model King/Queen is one who is active not just in-game but also on the forums: available to respond to new queries and proposed legislation, to keep informed of lore and changes made in-forum, and to answer questions posed by old hats and new players alike.

Activity in Mumble: Not everyone has access to a microphone, and not everyone is comfortable or interested in sharing their voice with their fellow Hermertians; that is perfectly fine and never a requirement for getting the most out of Hermertia. But Mumble voice-chat is a powerful tool for applicants to forge deeper relationships with their fellow Hermertians, allowing for easier communication and easier ability to work in building our world.

Community Involvement:

Hermertia lives and dies with the community involvement of its members; we have evolved and grown as a community for five years because of a stellar community that works together and has fun together. There are many ways to contribute and better the community; these are but a few of the most prevalent.

Participation in Co-Builds: Co-Builds are among some of the finest and most fun to construct locations in Hermertia: from the vast and stunning Concordia to the construction of an international infrastructure project such as the Nether Lines or a canal, co-builds bring people and materials from across the Empire together and are great for working with your fellow Hermertians.

Holding Elected Office: A number of Hermertians have the interest and the commitment to take on additional levels of responsibility in the workings of Hermertia: the Ministers of the Imperial Cabinet are each responsible for an aspect of Hermertain society or bureaucracy, and their commitment to keep the trains running on time and bring new ideas signals their dedication to the world we have created.

Working on Community Initiatives: Certain projects will always be too big for one man or woman to cover, and this is where we depend on our community to pitch in and contribute. Communal projects such as contributing articles to the library, voicing opinion on design ideas for communal builds, or drafting language for the Indoles Carta require input from all of our community to progress, and an applicant’s consistent dedication to projects such as these signals that they are committed to the resources of our community.

Unless I've missed anything glaring ( hopefully not!) , this is a very good draft of what to put through to become offical law. Glad we got all of the additional points for Kingship ascension added in. I am pleased this has come to fruition.
