A team of Wysterian researchers and archivists have recently concluded an in-depth voyage of discovery around two areas central to Wysteria's historical roots. These are the Duchy of Laborate, North-Eastern Ertia, from which the initial settlers set out many years ago; and the old yet still thriving farming community of Craikennais, Old World New Ertia: the village where the first of the recorded Scrayvens, Adam, held court as mayor and where he began to cultivate the community and beliefs that would, centuries later, lead to the formation of Wysteria.

Many new insights were gained into the history of these places, and much interest was taken in observing how these communities have fared in the many years since the founders of Wysteria had visited. Perhaps the most precious find, however, was the least outwardly impressive. In the depths of an unremarkable Laborate mining tunnel - now abandoned - once under the purview of infamous terrorist Brawlator, a thick volume, covered in rough hide, musty and mildewed, was discovered. An inspection revealed it to be the work of none other than Adam himself - seemingly an autobiography, the team speculates that the book is a copy of Adam'sAnalects of New Ertia, a third person semi-autobiographical history of Adam and his experiences in the Old World. All copies housed in Port Goldcrest's library were thought destroyed during the tragic wave of bombing committed by Brawlator, and the work was thus thought lost to time - it is speculated that this one's chance survival was due to the looting undertaken by Brawlator's accomplice Curlytop.

The Analects of New Ertia mark the rediscovery of one of two of Adam's famous works lost to the mists of time; the other, Adam's Diaries Of Before, are said to provide an account of the man's early life - researchers have had their hopes of finding it emboldened by this recent news. The work, now proudly located in Gallen's Assembly Library, provides fascinating insights on Adam's life and the contemporary New Ertian perspective on some of the largest political shakeups of the era, including the ascension of King Arjen to the Council and The Unravelling.

------

During the cycle of the Owl, a young man named Adam arrived one night on the shores of the fabled Mercury Isle in the old world. Little is now known publicly about his history, but it is said that he arrived after weeks if not months at sea following his fleeing from a region known as the Mercurian Wastes.

Adam spent years travelling the length of the Old World empire, looking for a place to call home: from the suburbs of Gnosis, to the lengths of Channoria's rivers, to the sparkling island nation of West Dermurgia, to the bountiful farms of so many lands. When he was 22 he approached Arjen I, at the time the Governor of the realm of New Ertia. Fascinated by Arjen's stories of the historical fleeing of his people due to an ice age, and equally warmed by the man's sincere hospitality and friendliness, Adam humbly asked Arjen to consider extending him an offer of vassal-ship: in other words, Adam would live in the fledgeling territory of New Ertia while building and supporting the people. Somewhat to his surprise, Arjen was hugely welcoming and almost immediately accepted his request. Adam became a vassal of the realm, living life as a contract miner in the growing desert city of Arjenton.

As the years passed in Arjenton, Adam toiled under the earth to excavate the regions huge and labyrinthian caves. Though he lived a content life, with a good standing and want of nothing, he felt as though he could be capable of something bigger. He had the pleasure of a cordial relationship with the Governor, whom he had (unknowingly) left a good impression on years ago, and who visited Arjenton regularly to oversee the bustling construction projects in the region. One evening he approached Arjen and asked for his consideration on a project: the settling of a new city within the borders of New Ertia.

Unbeknownst to Adam, Arjen had been planning his posting to a project for several weeks. The idea of a new city struck him as something Adam could do well on, and he appointed him to be the settlement's overseer and building manager. Once a location was agreed on (Arjen's suggestion of a jungle settlement was rejected as not adaptable enough), Adam and a group of Ertian builders and excavators headed to the location marked on the map: a bend in a river that meandered across New Ertia.

Upon arrival, Adam and his fellow Ertians scouted out the area. They found a fairly flat plain bordered on 3 sides by the river, and the last by a wall of trees. Taking in the wide river and the rich, silt-covered soil, Adam immediately realized that the location could be an abundant agricultural town, and fill a product niche that the New Ertian lands hadn't yet prioritized. Adam sent back word of his realization, and immediately commenced work on shelter. That day, buildings started going up on the land the first of which being a spacious circular home that was very unlike anything on the streets of either Arjenton or the older New Schapstad. It's dome-like construction was inspired by Adam's experiences of mining huts; years later, the same building served as the bustling town's town hall.

Over the next few years, the town, tentatively named Craikennais by Adam for reasons unknown (though one Ertian historian who spoke with Sean, the man's son, speculated that the name was drawn from a fairy tale of Adam's youth), grew at a rapid rate. Fueled by the lucrative export of crops such as carrots, potatoes, and most famously wheat, Craikennais grew and began to attract Ertians from other areas of the Realm. The most well-known immigration to Craikennais was when, with the town still under construction, Adam's close personal friend and secretary Gyrv rode to the bustling city of New Schapstad to, on his own initiative, advertise the town. Standing on a barrel in the city's main square, he lectured passersby on the benefits of a faming life while allegedly throwing bushels of wheat into the crowds. Though unorthodox, the demonstration was a huge success; with a month, over a dozen families had traveled to Craikennais to live a farmer's life.
After 4 years, the town was nearing completion. With the introduction of redstone mechanisms to farming, and the arrival of specialists both national and from abroad, Craikennais looked like it never had before. The town had just acquired its first automated harvester for wheat, and international trade centered around Craikennain wheat had sprung up.

At a small ceremony, Adam and the Ertian builders proudly declared that their town was complete, and Adam was officiated as the first mayor of Craikennais. Arjen attended, and remarked as he did on almost all his semi-regular visits that he was happy to see how his former miner had progressed so. Soon after, word spread that Arjen was due to become a King in the Council of the Crowned. Adam, clad in ceremonial armor, attended the coronation in his former home of Arjenton and presented the new King with gleaming armor fashioned from diamonds, and a sword imbued with the power of fire. Both were a testament to the emerging production and potential of Craikennais, and Adam couldn't be more proud. As the two, now old friends, looked out onto the desert night, they shared the thought that this was only the beginning of a great bond between the two.

But it seemed Adam had only just returned to his office in Craikennais when the Hermertian political landscape, which had just settled from the appointment of a new king, erupted once more. Unfortunately, these were not joyous tidings; rather, waves of fear and mistrust began to spread across the Empire. This was the start of the events known as The Unraveling. Historically, it is known that the conflict began around land talks which quickly became heated and led to violence. To Adam, in the fairly isolated town, the sudden change of mood was baffling. Scattered reports came in, sometimes a week late, of nether line malfunctions. It soon emerged, however, that these were not mere malfunctions: a terrorist was planting bombs on some of the Empire's busiest thoroughfares. And then it got worse: puzzlement soon turned to very real fear as it was discovered that bombs had been discovered, and in some cases set off, in some of the Empire's largest towns. Gnosis was a public spotlight, as multiple bombs were discovered in the course of a day. Soon, however, no one could rest easy as baffling reports came in that Altheia, a fledgling territory far to the north and unaffiliated with the increasingly heated land disputes, had also been targeted in the bombing campaign. Suddenly no one was safe even in their small towns, and a wave of Paranoia swept through Craikennais as the residents feared being bombed in their farmyards or tool sheds. Thankfully, a hastily-employed team of iron-clad bomb testers brought in by the Mayor soon restored the status quo in the town; after their work there, they joined a contingent from Arjenton in the grim and dire task of sweeping Arjenton and the nation's Cyan Line.

Throughout all the events of The Unraveling, Adam, Craikennais, and the nation of Ertia were thankfully untouched by the destruction and violence seen in other areas of the Empire, though Adam did attend a speech headed by Arjen to discuss the troubling times. Adam felt secure enough, in fact, to plan a hunting expedition in northern New Ertia. Upon his return, a week later, he knew something was very wrong immediately after he stepped into his office. Gyrv (still his secretary, though the man was getting on in years) wordlessly handed him a transcript of a speech made only yesterday in the Imperial project by... The Emperor?

Adam grew more shocked as his eyes traveled down the page: the speech was the first appearance of the Emperor in many mercannums, and, in it, the man denounced the recent violence that had destabilized the Empire to the core. He culminated his appearance by announcing in a controversial statement that it was the last decade's huge wave of foreign settlers that had wrought this on the Empire. With this came the news that many had been imprisoned immediately following the speech: along with Lenier DeChenal (the instigator of the original disputes), many faction leaders had been jailed. He read with sadness and confusion that this list included Stipes, a close friend of his who he had often visited in the north. With this, he signaled his herald and sent an urgent message to his King: what on earth was going on?

As details began to emerge out of the troubling events that occurred that day, Adam was filled with an undeniable feeling of regret: that he could have done more, perhaps, to help prevent the events. Nevertheless, life went on. As the older generations began to settle into almost an apathetic mindset, Adam ran craikaennais, year after year, with not much news.

Everything changed when, suddenly, word came from Minervan fleets that a New World had been discovered at last! Though Adam hadn't been following the fleet reports, he knew that an expedition had left to find new lands. Later that day, he was visited by Arjen; the now elderly king was in an excitement that Adam hadn't seen in mercannums. He was already planning an Ertian Expedition to the New World: would Adam join him?

Adam agreed, and so preparations were made. The main Ertian fleet Arjen and his contingent had sat prepped in the harbors of Arjenton for weeks, and so left swiftly. Adam, in charge of his own group of young eager Ertians, took a few weeks longer to prepare. And so, when the Ertian fleets carrying the Craikennais group arrived in the New World, and the travel-weary group finally arrived at the area marked out for a Nation of Ertia by the Empire's cartographers, they found a fledgling city of Florae and a smiling Arjen.

Without further ado, the group set out or their last voyage: travelling to a mapped-out section of coast that Arjen had allotted them under Adam. When they arrived, they noticed two principal things: a strategic and defensive hill overlooking the coast and a huge field of never-before-seen flowers: azure bluets. With the two ideas already ingrained, the construction of Fort Azure, founding point of Duchy Laborate, began.
