Greetings all! As you may know, a truly historic experiment in democracy is currently picking up steam in Wysteria: our realm's first ever election! Today, you will have the opportunity to unravel a narrative in the vein of a 'Choose Your Own Adventure', from the perspective of one of the individuals at the centre of the political intrigue.

-----------------------

You are Toby Stern, Minister for Environmental Affairs for ten years in the Labourer's Council of the late Duke Nicholas II; you will remain in this position until the next Minister - Wysteria's first elected individual to hold the position - decides whether or not your services will be required. A great supporter of the late Duke, you occupied your time on the Council with the environmental effects of Gallen's burgeoning trade and industry on the surrounding landscape. You harbour few political aspirations, and as such never seriously considered submitting your name for the Ministership - though you certainly have your opinions, and would prefer to see the Ministership fall to an individual, perhaps one of your fellow Ministers, who shares your ideals of progress through trade and Imperial outreach. You do have your suspicions that there are those who may be tempted to pursue a more conservative course - whether in reaction to recent event such or for their own gain, you aren't sure.

At last. After a long, excruciatingly slow and languishing day, your work was finished. Recent events had shaken the realm and the city to its core, but environmental impact assessment waited for no one. So here you were, compiling a dusty report on harbour erosion while outside the rough-hewn spruce timbers of your office the clatter and clamour of the Assembly reached new heights.

With a resounding and satisfying thump, you close the ledger and position it neatly on your desk. Rising, stretching muscles growing stiffer in - reluctant as he was to admit it - old age, you nod a goodbye to the Assembly clerk seated at the front desk and look out the stately windows of the Assembly facade onto the city. Sunlight slanting through throws long, thin pools of light onto the floor of the chamber as the sun begins its path below the horizon; perched up here on the top of the plateau as Gallen is, residents are lucky to have a tad longer in the sun.

As ever, those strange and fateful laws of nature dictate that the world's beauty is immune to the tragedy of recent events.

You're nearly out the door when, reflexively, you pat your breast pocket and notice a new lightness there. Something is amiss; your daily dossier on erosion reports is not on your person. Almost certainly languishing in a forgotten corner of the Assembly building, you have no immediate idea where it could be; you've walked through most every part of the building and crossed paths with most every member of the Assembly today. Mentally heaving a sigh at having your departure delayed, you shrug and resolve to seek out your dossier.

Do You:

- Return to your office to see if you might have left it there in your haste to depart.

- Check the Labourer's Council chamber.

- Check the Legal Library.

Return to your office!

You are most likely to have left it in your office, you think to yourself as you walk back up the sweeping staircase of the Assembly entrance hall.

The office, just vacated, is one of the nicer ones awarded to long-serving Ministers; a large room leaves ample space for a stately desk crafted from wood of the old acacia forests to the north, while the two walls lines with tall windows provide a sweeping view out of the rear of the Assembly building, overlooking Gallen's University and Observatory.

The dossier, however, is not here. You resign yourself to a more laborious search, as you consider where else you might have set the file down in the midst of the day's chaos.

You have spent a great deal today engaged in meetings of the Labourer's Council, as last-minute snags in the electoral process were worked our. You also passed by the Legal Library, domain of Chief Purveyor Jenkins, to run a check on relevant legal precedents concerning the Ministership.

Do You:

- Check the Labourer's Council Chamber

- Check the Legal Library
