As proposed from previous talks in the Imperial Gardens with other nobles at the Imperial City: Kings are the only noblemen that can hold the title of Emperor of Mercuria. Proposal: There should be a vote on whether or not Dukes who are in the High Council can also become Emperor, as well as if their character has to resign as Emperor if their time as a High Council member ends per our 3 Mercannum (3 month) cycle of the Councils. I would like to see that Dukes be given the opportunity to put their name into the vote to become the Emperor. Reason for this addition is that the current Emperor was always the figurehead of the Council of the Crowned, a purely ceremonial position. The new High Council should have a figurehead as well, and there is no reason to deny in my mind the Dukes who are on the Council of the Crowned to become the figurehead of the Council. Food for thought: Should Kings step down if they are not on the High Council as well or should they retain the ability to be the Emperor until they abdicate or pass on the title? My proposal to add to law in summary: - Dukes can be Emperor if they are on the High Council when an election is open, however if they are no longer on the High Council at the end of their 3 mercannum, then they are to step down as Emperor. |

Great post all around! I do not think Kings should have to step down from the Emperor vote if they are not in the High Council. There is a lot into gaining the King status and it should not be played down. I would offer my vote towards having Dukes in the High Council being able to become a candidate for Emperor. If they are no longer part of the High Council then there should be a transition period and a new vote to finish off the term. 2-3 Mercannum seems to be adequate. |

As the Emperor is a purely ceremonial position, I do not see a problem with Dukes on the High Council being able to obtain that rank. Any Duke on the High Council has clearly done something to deserve being there and should therefore eligible for Emperor status. Also I believe that any active King, whether on the Low or High Council, shall also be eligible. They put in their work to become a King and should be eligible indefinitely. Scrios' proposition for a transition period seems like a good idea, but I would say if an Emperor is inactive for a single Mercannum, a new vote should be enacted. |

I agree with Siden. It makes sense that kings should always have a shot at being emperor. |

As discussed on discord, I really don't see a problem with this. The position is ceremonial and one that recognizes a member of our community that people respect. All the items people have raised in this thread makes sense. |

Proposed language: Any Active King, be High Council or Low Council, is eligible for Emperor Candidacy. Any Duke on the High Council is eligible for Emperor Candidacy. If a Duke loses their High Council position while Emperor, there is a half Mercannum period (3 years) in which they can at any time abdicate their title, before it is taken back and given up for reelection. Thoughts on this? Did I miss anything or fudge the wording? It attempts to take the thoughts that others have had in this thread. |
