Anthrail waited in his war room with his uncle Nathaniel. The stood in silence for several minutes before Nathaniel finally spoke, “We’ve chased every lead we had. There is only one place left the blood could be.” “And where is that?” Anthrail replied, a steely edge in his voice. “A town called Chester le Ford, in Wysteria. I am preparing to leave at once.” “No, I have other duties that you must attend to. Send Gaithe, your new ‘Prodigy’” “Are you sure, she is untested in field missions.” “Yes. Promote her to Captain, give her the aplha detachment of the Gua’erdok and send her to Wysteria with orders to retrieve the blood at all costs” “As you wish, my liege.” Several hours later, in a bunker outside of Edhevrand, Nathaniel sits in a room with Gaithe, the newest captain of his forces. “Do you understand the mission, Captain?” he asked. “Well, most of it. I am to take this force to Wysteria and locate any Pyrencian blood that may have been illegally shipped to Chester-le-Ford, specifically any blood from descendants of Absalom. Once we locate the blood we are to bring it back here immediately, we are to attempt to cure anyone who has injected the normal blood if it isn't to late, but we are to immediately slay anyone who has injected the Absalom Blood. My only real question is this, what are we to do about the local authorities. I’m sure Duke Nicholas and Countess Liserett won’t be pleased if we show up and seemingly murder members of their community.” “You have Anthrail’s own authorization on this, if you don't believe you can act with complete secrecy and that it would be traced back to us, you are cleared to explain the situation to any Wysterian government officials as you see fit. You are a Captain in the Vel'thrank Ceran now Gaithe, your orders will not be clear cut anymore. We will expect you to make critical decisions under pressure. With the power and relative freedom your new rank gives you however, comes a great responsibility. Not only do the lives of your team rest in your hands, on this mission, so do the lives of everyone in that town, and possibly even all of our lives. We don't know how much they know about Absalom blood, but we have to assume they intend the worst. “Yes Sir, I won’t let you down.” “I pray that for all our sakes, you do not. Now go, time is of the essence.” After Gaithe left, Nathaniel turned to a small alcove covered by a thick curtain. “Was that acceptable, lord.” A partially blackened hand moved aside the curtain, and a man with one blue eye, and one violet eye surrounded by darkness stepped forward. “It shall have to do, now at least the King’s most loyal and adept protectors are out of the country. We shall act when the moon is naught but shadow.” |
