Good idea.

What I anticipate is that there were a lot of winding sea/river channels where the current went back and forth with the tides, such that it was difficult to just follow the river to it's eventual water current terminus.

A large number of these channels and false stop areas led into other seas, other areas, which allowed us to sail around to the other side of the map, to the Imperial Isle?

When the Concordia Straits were discovered, it was by chance and then a veritable gold rush ensued when trade links and a city were established on the closest point towards the Old World, how about that?

I'll see about a shitty mock up in paint and get going from there

That's a really fantastic theory that would explain our ancestor's travel well!

Maybe the old world crops weren't able to grow on new world soil due to weather, temperature, etc.? Then we would have to keep moving around trying to find land suitable for our crops. After a while it would make sense that Hermertians would learn how to grow on seperate pieces of land to expand and such, but before that I think it would be possible to just search for the most suitable piece of land that could be sustainable.

I disagree it shouldn't go to a vote, or that it is okay to leave it as a mumble chat or something because no one will be able to track the academic debates. I would say, major retcons deserve a formal post and formal discussion, not informal ones, except in the cases where the different views are framed as 'academics disagree', which I think is totally cool!

I agree that major, interdependent lore retcon needs to be discussed beyond mumble and voted on to make sure there is community support and understanding.

I agree with Chairman's thoughts on needing formal (written, recorded) debate here. More opinions to come.

I'll do a paint mockup on what could possibly help describe why we landed on the other side of the map, re: my post up there ^ . I'll make another thread for this discussion also.
