Go try some random article that has lots of tables and report back? You don't need an account if it's not a controversial Wikipedia article.

From what I remember it was pretty much identical to the default Wikipedia interface and syntax.

Well that's a lot easier than people were making it out to be!

I found the old wiki pretty easy to use once I got the hang of things. It uses the exact same syntax as wikipedia, so you can just copy formatting from pages there if you need to.

I checked out the test wiki and compared it to Wikipedia's editing system. Our test wiki does not have the same visual editor that Wikipedia has, but if we can get that somehow, then I'd say stick with the test wiki. Otherwise, it will have the same usability issues that it had in the past.

Bare in mind the test wiki is running a VERY old version as it is just a carbon copy of the original. Obviously if we stick with Media Wiki we use a new version. Another one to take a look at is DokuWiki, I have used it for some major projects in the past, I have one running but its private as it is in use by a club. I would recommend going to each MediaWiki and DokuWiki's websites and look for a demo site where you can play with them. Actually, I could setup a demo version of both wiki softwares on my server. Ill do that and make an account on both with full permissions for you to play with.

Ok, you can try DukoWiki here.

Login to the demo account with this info:
User: Demo
Password: password

The demo account has default user permissions which should let you edit pages and play around with the wiki.

Thank you for setting that up. I'll check it out when I get home from work.

I've had a quick look and DokuWiki looks easy enough to use. Once theres a few templates setup for new pages im sure it wont take much effort for even the most technically inept of us to start putting stuff in there

DokuWiki seems a bit less user-friendly than other services, but I agree with Septimus that some well-constructed templates can help solve that problem. Johanssen, can you create a user with admin privileges for the test site for me so I can check out the permissions and whatnot?

A lot of the info we need for pages already together in scholars and mystics. If a few individuals just copy it into formatted pages, it shouldn't take long.
