Is it possible to create an editing whitelist for the wikia? |

I do believe you can create user permissions in various groups. Most major Wikias have this IIRC |

After some investigating, it looks like Darius' site might be best. Google Sites has a site storage limit of 100MB, which is not going to work if we want lots of pictures and whatnot. Unless we can't alter permissions on Darius' site or there is a similar limit, I say we go with that. |

I've experimented with the Wikia permissions a bit, and there doesn't seem to be a good way to apply a permission set across the whole site instead of just individual pages. The search function is also not as good as Sites, but not enough to be a major hindrance. Also, there does not appear to be a site size limit, which is good. |

Is there any wiki software that would allow for more wikipedia style editing and host it ourselves? |

https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/MediaWiki This is open source PHP software that allows you to create a wiki, but we'd have to upload it to a test site to see how well it works. It appears to be similar to what we had back in the day, which wasn't the best system. If it is user-friendly, this could be an option for hosting a wiki on this site. |

Since I don't know, was the old site easier or worse than editing wikipedia articles? |

I haven't edited Wikipedia articles, so I can't say for sure. You had to put your info into HTML templates to add/edit pages in the old library, which was not the simplest process. |

Go try some random article that has lots of tables and report back? You don't need an account if it's not a controversial Wikipedia article. |

Just so everyone knows, there was an old wiki setup on MediaWiki, I have a version of the old one running on my personal test server so you can go play with that along with viewing the old stuff. Its an old version but gives a good visual of what it looks like. http://www.hermertiatest.rgfv.ca/wikitest/index.php?title=Main_Page |
