I remember chatting with some of us on mumble a week or two ago. We asked, "when will it be out of java?"

It turns out, and most of you probably already know this, it is. But it's not good news for some of us.

First of all, it's no where near at parity yet. It has a fraction of the features (but that will change).

Second, it's Windows 10 only. FUCK. I refuse to get this OS because it scans your practices for ad/sense data. It's basically no better than a google OS, and you know how I feel about that. Watch porn? You can be assured Microsoft knows.

Third, MICRO-TRANSACTIONS. Goddamnit.

Fourth, no mod support for the foreseeable future.

Fifth, rumor has it the devs are prioritizing it, and will never send the java version to 2.0.

The future of minecraft might be a bit bleaker than I anticipated. Sure, it will be around for a generation to come (mostly due to children buying it). But for us veteran players, it might not be the game/spirit we love. Worse still, we might lose our Hermertia. Once mods DO come out (and they will, microsoft won't be that stupid), then hopefully we'll be able to port the java game into the Windows 10 version. But that means some of us can't make the transition until we get this OS.

Lastly, how will modding and microtransactions work at the same time?? Why would anyone use microtransactions when there are mods? Will they nerf mods like some games to maximize microtransactions? Or are the microtransactions just going to target naive children and their parents?

thoughts? assuage my fears brothers and sisters!

If this will be the mainstream version everyone plays I'll sadly not play it. I use Linux, and I will never switch to Windows, even less to Windows 10. I really hope that it'll get ported to Linux or that the Java version keeps dominating.

I am confused on what the problem is. From what I recall, the Windows 10 version and the current version are cross-compatible (i.e. can still play on the same servers and everything). Is there something I'm missing?

The micro-transactions are just skins though and that is only for the Xbox/Pocket Edition versions. It isn't like they are withholding 'The End DLC' or anything.

Not from what I have heard or am reading. They are entirely different versions, with different compatibilities, and the Windows 10 version has been receiving more of the dev-focus. There will come a time when Microsoft can choose, "now that both are at parity, do we focus double efforts on both versions, or do we focus on the Windows 10 one only." Time will tell. Either or, you cannot use the same servers as it stands. Mods are incompatibile across both versions. And maps will require a special import (if that happens at all we'll have to see).

The Windows 10 version and Pocket Edition will be able to be played together.

"Mojang say that Windows 10 Edition won't replace the current PC version of Minecraftboth games will be supported equally.

The microtransactions, are all SKIN PACKS. It's not like access to the end or taming horses is microtransactions.

I don't know about if Minecraft will make it to 2.0 but 1.10 is definitely in development.

Thank you for being the voice of rationality here Darius. As much as i dislike Microsoft, it's not the end of the world, the game is going to be okay, and it will continue to be updated in java.
