So, some of you might know that I am a lighting designer and tech for a number of productions we run at my school. Well, we were running a Christmas concert for parents and families the other day, featuring a lot of musicians who had been working hard all fall; we had done one a few hours earlier for the students and it went off without a hitch (specifically the great lighting effects, if I may say so myself
). Now, we're re-running it for families. It comes time for my partner, our sound tech who I will only describe as not really engaged in his current work -because, ironically he's playing minecraft at the moment - to project some Christmas Carol lyrics for a sing-along. Now, the computer these are projected off of is sitting backstage; unbeknownst to us, during the break between the two concerts someone had went in there and modified the lyrics .. substantially. The first song up is Silent Night; it takes us a good 15 seconds to realize that the lyrics that were currently being projected to, remember, a group of parents and young siblings, had been liberally modified. Suffice it to say, the song now included genitalia and narcotics. So, I notice and react in the manner I've reproduced above. Cue the projector being shut off and a remainder of the show spent with parents glancing upwards, curiously and/or reproachfully, to the tech booth where we sit.
