This makes sense to me, and seems in accordance with our laws; let's be sure to iron it out into official language in the rewritten Indoles Carta.

Skeletal lost his lands 'cos he was a Serf with less rights than the Landed Nobles.

When you move out, you can optionally give up your lands.
Because you are a Landed Noble with Rights, you dont give up those lands when you leave, UNTIL you become of equal rank as your Liege Lord. At this point the lands can be reclaimed, as you cant return under them at that point anyway.

You retain your Green or Blue Count/Duke colours and Rank when you leave, also.

In order to eliminate the potential for legal ambiguities, I officially release my claims to the Duchy of Laborate to the Kingdom of Ertia, to be under the sole authority of King Arjen. I only request that I be allowed to sore goods there temporarily as I work on the moving process.

I actually have personal experience with making the shift from vassalry under Ertia to independence. I did have to forfeit my lands and, in addition, my title of Count when settling the GRHH. To clarify, I no longer had any rights to build in or control Caldera and I was once again a serf. However, I'm not sure a reversion to serf is appropriate in this case.

You were actually reverted to serf status Chairman? The entire point of stating our under a liege is to gain Count status; I was sure you didn't lose it once you left Ertia. I mean, you know what happened to you, but this doesn't make sense to me.

That doesn't make sense to me either. You should keep your rank at the least. This can be part of the law when we write it.

I'm not 100% sure all about all of the legal proceedings. I know that Nick definitely keeps his Duke status. His new holdings won't be a duchy until it is appropriate of course, but he will always be Duke of Laborate. What I'm looking for is to allow Svanhild to look at Laborate as more of his protectorate, since Nick can't be expected to be involved with its politics when he had his own holdings to deal with.

That sounds sensible to me; my Ducal status is still derived from my work on Laborate (and Merry's from his on Malwoden), but I hold on to no claims of authority over those lands.

That would be the perfect way to state it Nicholas (to me anyways).

Yeah, I had to regain my count status as count of Anthi Laguna. And yeah, it didn't make much sense to me either, so a change in the law is probably a good idea.
