I say that the line in the Annals of History should say this:

Phoenix 00|11, A.I. 494: Various tribal leaders petition their lieges and ultimately the Council of the Crowned for defined rights and titles. The term Serf is abandoned at this time, and a new Vassal class with various local terms replaces it.

To be fair, serfs did have "defined rights" already before the name change took place. I'm not sure if this is the best explanation or not.

So are you just against any kind of embellishment at all? Might as well just put in there "we as roleplayers decided to change this" or just like the last few months it seems not bother to record happenings at all in a lore-ified fashion. Part of the discussion, especially in mumble between myself, Sam, and a few others was exactly what their rights were and why the term Serf implied that didn't have any rights at all.

Historically, we have used events that transpire on the server or in the forums as basis for our lore. So, yes, if something actually happened then it is ok to embellish a bit. Ex. the battles that occur during a war may be exaggerated a bit because typically it's only a few people fighting. So it's necessary to say things like "The great Ertian army, 10,000 strong, marched against the evil DorEryn." Instead of "Arjen decided to fight Aeries." However, serfs have had defined rights since the creation of the insoles Carta. In fact, all members of the empire have similar rights. So I think that this description might be reaching a bit.

What if we used the term "clarified" instead of "defined?"

No time like the present for a rebellion.
