History of Florae

[found this piece on Florae on the old forums -gotharer]

Dragon-00-00

The first wave of Ertian settlers, after making a stop in the village of Coton on Imperial Isle, sailed north until they came upon a small peninsula of land on which they ran aground. The eerily persistent fog made it near impossible to navigate the rough waters of the Imperial Ocean, and the shipwreck was inevitable despite attempts to avoid it by the captain of the Ertian navy. The wreck was not as violent as initially thought, and passengers only sustained minor injuries. After following the coast for a few days wrought with unease, the settlers, led by King Arjen I himself, came upon a bay of water surrounded by innumerable amounts of exotic flowers not found in Old Hermertia. Settlers with a background in the healing sciences immediately took a liking to the area, wanting to test the new flora for their medicinal properties. King Arjen, being somewhat of a scholar himself, saw both the scientific and economic potential of the area. Settling on the bay would jumpstart immediate trade with the primitive settlements popping up all over the New Hermertian world. After a week of scouting the area, the settlement of Florae was founded upon the Bay of Flowers and the first buildings began to grow quicker than the flowers on which they were constructed.

The Kingdom's first legislative building was constructed in Florae. Given the continual influx of Ertian citizens from Old Hermertia, greater governmental organization was becoming necessary. Florae became the seat of the the duchy of Fleuren as well as the capital of the Kingdom. King Arjen II held this seat until his suicide in Dragon-00-08.

Dragon-01-03

Increasing international trade demand began to draw the Kingdom's focus from Three Rivers back to Florae. King Arjen III recognized this and vowed to provide the funding and materials to build Florae into a world-class port. Gone were the days of the Mercurian kingdom's trade dominance, as many duchies and even counties had developed renown ports of their own. King Arjen began implementing the revitalization of Florae by hiring laborers from all over the kingdom to start work on a wall. Thus, Florae's great walls began to take shape.
